NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of North Florida men's soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision on the road to Lipscomb at the LU Soccer Complex in Nashville, Tenn. The Ospreys dropped to 1-12-0 overall and 0-5-0 in the Atlantic Sun Conference, while the Bisons improved to 4-9-2, 3-2-0 in league play.
North Florida could get nothing going offensively. The Ospreys recorded eight shots on the day with only two shots on goal. Comparatively, the Bisons registered 16 shots with nine shots on goal. Lipscomb's Garret Pettis notched a career day, taking seven shots including five shots on goal and scoring four of the Bisons' goals on the day.
The Ospreys were balanced with eight different players registering shots on the afternoon. Julian Botella, Luis Daniel Camejo, Casey Caronis, Josh Ciambella, Pedro D'Avila, Nick May, Teddy Mulamba and Mauricio Valderruten each took a shot apiece with Botella and Valderruten's shots coming on goal.
At goal, freshman Federico Bertele recorded four saves, but surrendered five goals in 90 minutes between the posts for the Ospreys.
Lipscomb got things started quickly with a goal by Pettis in the fourth minute off of a pass from Kevin Barbar. The goal would prove to be the match-winning goal as each of the Ospreys' goal attempts were thwarted by the LU defense.
In the 18th minute, Pettis netted his second goal of the match to increase the hosts lead. Nine minutes later, he picked up his third goal. Pettis notched another goal in the 30th minute to give the striker four goals and put his team in front by four.
The Bisons used a goal in the second half to provide the final margin of 5-0.
North Florida returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 22, as the Ospreys travel across town to take on rival Jacksonville in the 2011 edition of the River City Rumble. The match between the Ospreys and the Dolphins is slated for 7 p.m.
