Men’s Soccer Falls to Belmont

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of North Florida men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision on the road to Belmont on Friday night in Atlantic Sun Conference play. The Ospreys fell to 1-11-0 overall and 0-4-0 in A-Sun play, while the Bruins improved to 6-6-1 and 2-1-1 in league play.
Offensively, the Ospreys recorded six shots compared to nine by the Bruins. Both teams registered four shots on goal, but BU's goalkeeper was able to thwart all four UNF attempts.
UNF attempted four corner kicks compared to just one by BU. Belmont edged North Florida 20-to-15 in fouls. The Bruins were charged with five offsides, while the Ospreys did not have an offsides in the match.
Senior Enrique Haeussler led North Florida with three shots that were all on goal. Sophomore Luis Daniel Camejo added a shot on goal, while freshmen Casey Caronis and Teddy Mulamba each added shots in the match.
Freshman Federico Bertele took the loss for the Ospreys. The rookie surrendered just two goals, while recording a pair of saves.
In the 43rd minute of the match, Belmont's Pedro Miranda carried the ball from midfield and beat keeper to the far post from right of the box to put the hosts in front 1-0 just before intermission.
The only other goal scored in the match came in the 71st minute. The Bruins' Alex Jenison took a long ball from Bradley Shuck and chipped the ball over the goalkeeper's head on a break away to put Belmont in front 2-0.
The Ospreys continued to battle hard in the second half as all four of UNF's shots on goal came in the second stanza. The visitors were unable to break the scoreboard and fell by two goals.
North Florida continues play in Nashville, Tenn. as the Ospreys take on Lipscomb in a match on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 3 p.m. (ET).
