JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's soccer team is set for the Diadora/Spinx Furman Invitational this weekend. The Ospreys open up the tournament against the College of Charleston in a match slated for 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11. UNF closes out the event against tournament-host Furman on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 2:30 p.m.
“Furman was ranked in the top 25 and those are the type of teams we like to play,” Head Coach Ray Bunch said of the tournament. “Charleston has been playing exceptionally well and will be a good match up for us. It will be challenging, but we feel it is a good way to see where the team is. We are looking forward to it.”
North Florida will look to rebound after opening the season with a pair of losses at the UCF Fall Classic in Orlando, Fla. The Ospreys fell to the host school UCF by a score of 3-1, before dropping a 3-2 decision to Iona.
The College of Charleston enters the weekend with a 3-0 record, downing Coastal Carolina, Air Force and Old Dominion. The trip to Greenville, S.C. will mark the first trip away from home for the Cougars.
Furman begins the tournament with a 1-2 record. After claiming a 1-0 victory over Presbyterian, the Paladins dropped back-to-back matches by a score of 2-1, falling to Old Dominion and Air Force.
The final team in the tournament is Florida Gulf Coast. The Eagles enter the matches with a 1-2 record. Florida Gulf Coast defeated FIU, 1-0, before dropping 1-0 decisions to No. 11 USF and Florida Atlantic.
