BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Three players scored in double figures for the University of North Florida women's basketball team but it was not enough as the Ospreys fell to Atlantic Sun foe Campbell, 64-52, on Friday afternoon at the Pope Convocation Center in Buies Creek, N.C.

Junior guard Juliemay Syquio led the Ospreys (1-4, 0-1 A-Sun) with 15 points, going 4-of-8 from the field and a perfect 7-of-7 from the line. Sophomore guard Brittany Kirkland added 13 points, while freshman forward Jadhken Kerr tallied 12, shooting 4-of-5 from behind the arc. Senior forward Arlande Cherizol led on the boards with nine rebounds.

For the Camels (4-1, 1-0 A-Sun) Kate Cloxton tallied 16 points. Lauren Yesh added 10 points while pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds.

The two teams kept the game close in the opening minutes, but Campbell went on a run to take a six point, 17-11, lead midway through the half. Kerr knocked down two of her four three pointers of the half over the next two minutes and sophomore guard Kim Baker connected on a layup to knot the score at 19 with 8:31 left in the half. The Camels responded with a 13-2 run to take their largest lead of the half, up 11 (32-21) with just under four minutes left. UNF would cut into the lead, but the Camels took a 38-31 advantage into the break.

UNF came out of the break hitting back-to-back shots with a jumper from Kirkland followed by a layup from senior center Shennette Sheffield to cut the lead down to three (38-35) at the 17:43 mark. The Camels responded with a 15-4 run over the next nine minutes to take a 14 point lead, 53-39, with 8:37 remaining. The Ospreys were unable to respond as Campbell took its largest lead of the game, up 19 (62-43) with just over three minutes left. UNF closed out the game with a 9-2 run, going 7-of-8 from the free throw line in the final minutes, but it was too late to overcome the deficit.

“I think they were more physical than we were early in the game,” said head coach Mary Tappmeyer. “They got us a bit frustrated and took us out of our game. We did not rebound the ball well. They hit the offensive glass hard and if you're not rebounding then its tough to win. Rebounding is going to be the name of the game for us from here on out. They had 17 second chance points. I thought our defense played well at times, but we need to get more defensive production from our bench.”

North Florida shot 40 percent from the field, including 44.4 percent from behind the arc, while the Camels shot just 36.1 percent and 27.3 percent, respectively. The Ospreys also had their best showing of the season from the line, shooting 92.3 percent as a team from the charity stripe.

The Ospreys will be back in action at home on Wednesday, Dec. 2, when they host Alabama State. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at UNF Arena.

A season ticket for basketball is $120 and includes all men's and women's home games, a total of 28 games on 19 event dates, including nine Atlantic Sun Conference double headers. Single-game pricing is $10 for adults and $8 for youth 17-and-under and senior citizens 55-and-older. Children 2-and-under and any current UNF student with a valid Osprey1 Card are admitted free. Student guest passes are $5 and limited to one per student.
