UNF plays matches at Campbell and at Mercer this weekend
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's soccer team hits the road for its final two Atlantic Sun Conference regular season matches of the year. The Ospreys play Campbell on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m., before playing Mercer on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 7 p.m.
The matches will have significant implications on the A-Sun standings with the conference tournament just around the corner. Currently, the Ospreys are in fourth place with 10 points, but because Florida Gulf Coast is not eligible for the tournament due to NCAA Division I reclassification, UNF would enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed and host a first round match. Campbell is one of two teams that have already punched its ticket into the tournament and Mercer is tied with Jacksonville one point behind the Ospreys with nine points.
Only two teams have clinched berths into the A-Sun Tournament and the remaining seven teams are only separated by five points. Teams receive three points for a win and one point for a tie. All seven teams vying for one of the four remaining spots in the tournament each have two conference matches remaining.
Last season, the men's soccer team split with the two teams at home. The Ospreys fell 3-0 to Campbell before shutting out Mercer 1-0 at Hodges Stadium.
UNF enters the match on the heels of its best offensive performance in over two years. The Ospreys cruised to an easy 4-2 victory over USC Upstate on Sunday, Oct. 25, at Hodges Stadium. The four goals were the most scored by the men's soccer team since the Ospreys defeated Palm Beach Atlantic 5-0 on Oct. 30, 2006.
Four different UNF players scored goals against the Spartans with senior captain Matthew Hollyoak adding a pair of assists for five total players with two points in the mach. Sophomore Theo Fulger scored his first goal of the season in the match, while freshmen Greg Crowell and Calvin Lowe each added their second of the year. Junior Adam O'Neill scored his team-leading fifth goal of the year in the match which proved to be the match-winning goal.
The Ospreys' match against Campbell can be seen on ASun.TV. The match can be viewed at ASun.TV. The price is $5.99 per event or $9.99 for a month subscription. Yearly subscriptions are available for just $69.99. To purchase an event CLICK HERE.
