
Men’s Soccer Drops Match at Belmont

UNF men’s soccer team lost 4-1 on the road at Belmont.
JACKONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's soccer team had its three-match unbeaten streak snapped as they fell 4-1 to Belmont on Sunday, Oct. 18, in Nashville, Tenn.
Neither team was able to score in the first half, scoring all five goals of the match in the second half. The Bruins outshot the Ospreys 13-to-8 in the match and the Bruins attempted five more corner kicks than UNF (8-to-3).
The Bruins were the first to score as Justin Ferguson netted his second goal of the season off of a corner kick by Jeff Phillips in the 56th minute of the match.
Phillips picked up his second assist of the match in the 74th minute as he had the helper on Brandon Tarr's seventh goal of the year. The goal gave the host school a 2-0 advantage.
The Ospreys cut the deficit in half in the 76th minute of the match. Sophomore Kevin Ramirez netted his first goal of the season from 30 yards out in center of the field off of a pass from Peter Lauer.
UNF would move no closer as the Bruins added a pair of goals in the final 14 minutes of the match. Tarr scored his second goal of the match on a penalty kick in the 77th minute. In the 83rd minute of the match, Edgardo Padillo sent a ball through the line to Justin Hay who had a one on one opportunity. Hay slotted the ball underneath the UNF keeper to provide the final margin.
The University of North Florida men's soccer team returns to action on Friday, Oct. 23, as they host East Tennessee State at 7:30 p.m. at Hodges Stadium. On Sunday, Oct. 25, the Ospreys will take on USC Upstate in a match at 3:30 p.m.
