UNF Begins A-Sun Play with Pair of Matches

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's soccer team opens Atlantic Sun Conference play with a pair of home matches at Hodges Stadium. The Ospreys begin conference play with a match against Florida Gulf Coast on Friday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m., before taking on Stetson on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m.

North Florida finished last season 4-5-0 in conference play. The Ospreys finished its final reclassification season with a sixth-place Atlantic Sun Conference finish and a second-straight would-be A-Sun Tournament appearance.

“We are entering into the business part of the season,” head coach Ray Bunch commented. “I think we played our best match of the season last week so that's a good way to enter the conference season. I think that both Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson are both in the top five in the conference. I think we match up well with them, but we need to worry about ourselves first.”

The Ospreys first conference opponent of the weekend is Florida Gulf Coast, who enter the match with a 2-4-1 overall record. The match marks the third meeting between the schools. The Eagles lead the all-time series 2-0-0. Last season, FGCU claimed a 7-1 victory in Fort Myers, Fla.

Following the match with the Eagles, UNF will take on Stetson on Sunday night. The Hatters enter the weekend with a 6-0-1 overall record. Stetson opens A-Sun play with a match against Jacksonville before taking on the Ospreys. Last season, the Ospreys were edged 1-0 in overtime by the Hatters in Deland, Fla. The match marks the fifth meeting between the schools with Stetson leading the series 4-0-0.

Single-game tickets for men's and women's soccer matches, volleyball matches and track and field meets will be $5 for adults and $3 for youth 17-and-under and senior citizens 55-and-older. Children 2-and-under and any current UNF student with a valid Osprey Card are admitted free. Student guest passes for those events are $3 and limited to one per student.
