
Ospreys Drop A-Sun Opener

The University of North Florida men’s soccer team fell 3-0 in its Atlantic Coast Conference opener to Florida Gulf Coast on Friday night at Hodges Stadium.

“In the first half, we were one goal down, but I thought we were controlling the match,” head coach Ray Bunch commented after the match. “This has been happening all year. We fail to clear the ball. We clear the ball right to their forward and they put the ball away.”
“It is a shame because we played very well. As the stats show, we had the same amount of corners; we out shot them. It is really disappointing because I don't think we are playing too badly. It is very disappointing.”
Aside from the score, the match was virtually even. UNF recorded 10 shots compared to nine by FGCU. Both schools had five shots on goal and were knotted at seven corner kicks apiece. Each school recorded 13 fouls in the match.
Senior defender Matthew Hollyoak, freshman midfielder Calvin Lowe and sophomore defender Luis Montoya led the way for the Ospreys with a pair of shots each with Hollyoak's shots coming on goal.
The score remained 1-0 until the 70th minute when Tyler Sharpe scored off of a failed clear by the Ospreys. Eleven minutes later,
