UNF improves A-Sun record to 5-1
BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The University of North Florida women's tennis team was nearly flawless on Friday in its 6-1 dual win over Campbell.
UNF (8-9, 5-1 Atlantic Sun Conference) won all but one singles match and was victorious in two of three doubles matches. Junior Natalia Sanchez led the way with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Campbell's Scarlett Alfonzo in No. 2 singles to improve her conference record to 5-1.
In the No. 2 match, senior Vanessa Sanchez picked up a 6-3, 6-3 victory against the Camels' Blanca Saenz. At No. 4, junior Ina Durcakova defeated Campbell's Ana Surviladze, 6-4, 6-2.
Freshman No. 5 singles player Victoria Krook took down Campbell's Nina Surviladze, 6-2, 7-5 to extend her winning streak to four matches. Sophomore Carolina Melo came out on top of a back-and-forth duel with Campbell's Cristina Garcia by scores of 6-1, 3-6, 12-10.
The Lady Ospreys picked up the doubles point after Vanessa Sanchez and Durcakova pulled together to beat the Surviladzes 9-8 in the No. 2 match and Krook and junior Maria Melihova recorded a 9-7 win over Liza Bensimon and Garcia.
UNF will return to action at 2 p.m. on Friday against USC Upstate at the UNF Tennis Complex.
