JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's tennis team gave its best effort on Friday against a tough USC Upstate squad, but it was not enough in a 5-2 loss.

The loss snapped a two-match conference winning streak for the Ospreys (8-10, 5-2 Atlantic Sun Conference).

Senior Vanessa Sanchez improved her record to 11-5 overall and 5-2 in the A-Sun with her win at No. 2 singles over Upstate's Susana Hernandez. Sanchez dropped the first set 3-6 but came back to take a 4-3 lead in the second set before Hernandez retired. Junior Carolina Melo snatched the Ospreys' other win, picking up a 4-6, 7-6 (6), 10-5, decision at No. 6 over Upstate's Maria Herrera.

Junior Maria Melihova and freshman Victoria Krook recorded their eighth win as a doubles team with their 8-6 victory over Herrera and Diana Martinez in No. 3 doubles.

UNF will return to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday when it hosts ETSU at the UNF Tennis Complex. It will be the Ospreys' 25^th-Anniversary Celebration, where greats of the program's past will make their return to be recognized for their achievements.
