WOMEN'S SOCCER WEEKLY:<br>Lady Ospreys prepare for home finale

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Sporting a 4-1 record at Hodges Stadium this season, the University of North Florida women's soccer team wraps up its home schedule this weekend while trying to push its Atlantic Sun Conference back above the even mark.

Schedule

UNF (6-8-1, 3-3-0 A-Sun) plays just one match this week – its final home match of the season – against Campbell (3-6-3, 2-3-1) on Saturday at 3 p.m. The Camels battled East Tennessee State to a scoreless tie in their last outing after rolling over USC Upstate, 3-1, two days earlier. UNF holds a 2-1 edge in the all-time series over the Camels, including a 2-1 victory in Buies Creek, N.C., last season.

In thrilling fashion, UNF snapped its three-game losing streak on Sunday with an overtime win over Stetson. The Lady Ospreys had not yet scored in the contest with less than seven minutes remaining. Contributing a team-best three assists this season, Gowan finally put one in the net herself when she rocketed a free kick from 35 yards past Campbell's keeper to end UNF's skid. Gowan scored six goals last season while playing at the forward position but moved to the midfield this season.

The Lady Osprey squad has outshot opponents 74-43 at Hodges Stadium this season. Last season, UNF dropped its first seven home matches before winning its final two. The Lady Ospreys won their first three at home this season before splitting its last two home outings.

Record Watch

Gowan placed her name in the career assist category of the UNF women's soccer record book two weekends ago when she assisted on a goal against Kennesaw State. The assist increased her career total to 14, ranking her tied for 10^th on the all-time list. She will move in to a tie for seventh with one more and will have sole possession of the same slot with two more. Her goal against Stetson inched her closer to the career goals top-10 list, needing five more this season to break onto the list.

Head coach Linda Hamilton on the home finale: “We have really enjoyed playing in front of our own fans this season. Hopefully, we can come out on Saturday and be the best we have all season.”

Gowan on scoring her first goal of the season: “It feels good to finally score. I have taken shots that have hit the post and crossbar, and some of those have been put in by others on our team, but it's nice to finally get one.”

Hamilton on the matchup with Campbell: “We cannot overlook Campbell. They are a strong team and our conference is very unpredictable this season.”
