TAMPA, Fla. - The University of North Florida outdoor track and field teams competed in their second meet of the season on Friday, taking part in the USF Invitational. The meet was a successful one for the Osprey men and women, with both teams finishing with runners in the top-10 of their event.
The women's high jumpers lived up to the saying "birds of a feather flock together" with Emily Kohler, Amy Stroder and Elise Trexler all tying for fourth place with a height of 1.60m. Kohler also participated in the long jump where she finished fifth, after leaping a distance of 5.28m. Kohler (32.33m) was joined by Golden Creavy (31.72m) in the javelin throw, where the two finised back-to-back taking fourth and fifth place.
On the track, Amanda Davey made her outdoor debut finishing the 1500m run in second place. Davey completed the event in 4:45.33, which is a career best. Kelly Marshall finished the 1500m in fourth place (4:48.54), while Sarah Coghlan finished fifth with a time of 4:48.85. Like Davey, both Marshall and Coghlan set new career bests with their times.
On the men's side, Dane Simmons led the way in the 800m run, taking sixth place with a time of 2:03.88, falling short of the top spot by a little over eight seconds. Marvin Moore was the next Osprey to cross the finish line, with a time of 2:05.41, good enough for eighth.
Jeff Auletta had a spectacular finish in the 1500m, securing sixth place (4:13.29), while lone senior Ryan Austin finished seventh (4:17.07). Auletta's time is a new career best for him in the 1500m. Nathan Holden finished with two top-10 finishes of his own taking ninth in the 1500m and tenth in the 3000m.
The Ospreys will take a week off in order to prepare for the Sacramento State Hornet Invite held in Sacramento, Calif., on March 24.
