
UNF falls to Campbell

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida women's tennis team has lost back-to-back matches for the first time this season after falling to Atlantic Sun Conference foe Campbell 4-3 at the UNF Tennis Complex on Tuesday.
Since an 8-0 start, the Lady Ospreys (9-3, 4-2 A-Sun) have lost three of their last four matches.
With doubles specialist and No. 5 singles player Ina Durcakova sidelined due to injury, the Lady Ospreys fell into an early hole by losing the doubles point. UNF's Catalina Castillo and Natalia Sanchez won at No. 1 doubles, upending Campbell's Scarlet Alfonzo and Blanca Saenz 8-4. The Camels (10-2, 3-1 A-Sun) took wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, however, to take an early 1-0 lead in the match.
In singles, UNF got wins at No. 2 from Castillo (6-1, 6-1), No. 3 from Florencia Torres (7-6, 6- 2) and No. 4 from Sanchez (6-1, 6-1). Three-set losses at the No. 1 position and the bottom two spots, however, did the Lady Ospreys in. Campbell's Alfonzo upended Vanessa Sanchez 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 1 position. UNF's Robin Rogers and Carolina de Melo then lost in tight matches at the No. 5 and 6 positions, respectively, to give the Camels the victory.
The Lady Ospreys return to action on Tuesday when they play host to St. John's at the UNF Tennis Complex. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
