Quoting Coach Tappmeyer: “We have a tough stretch coming up, playing three games in a week, but all of those games are at home where we have played well. We saw SavannahState at our home tournament so we have an idea of what to expect from them.”
The University of North Florida and SavannahState women's basketball teams will get an early start to the 2008 portion of their schedules when they meet Wednesday night at UNF Arena.
The matchup with SavannahState (7-5) will start a three-game homestand for UNF (4-7) in which the Lady Ospreys will try to crawl back to the .500 mark on the season. UNF had a crack at that in its last home outing, but wasn't able to get past Wofford in a defensive struggle that closed out the UNF Holiday Classic. The Lady Ospreys fell again to Wofford in their last outing, never leading in a 58-44 loss.
UNF will try to avoid its first three-game losing streak of the year when it takes on SavannahState and will also try to win its fourth game in a row against the Tigers.
This will be the first meeting between the teams this decade. UNF defeated SavannahState 82-55 on Dec. 29, 1999, in the last matchup between the schools. SavannahState and UNF, however, got an up close look at each other during the UNF Holiday Classic. Both teams finished that tournament 1-1, each defeating NorfolkState and losing to Wofford.
The Lady Ospreys will swoop into conference play following the SavannahState game, hosting in-state foes Stetson (Saturday) and FloridaGulfCoast (Monday) before heading on the road to take on long-time rival KennesawState.
