UNF falls to 2-2 in A-Sun

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida women's soccer team (3-8-1, 2-2 A-Sun) fell to the Mercer Bears (5-5-1, 3-1 A-Sun) on Sunday 2-0, as the sun finally came out in North Florida. Due to scattered showers earlier in the day video streaming for the game was cancelled.
UNF was outshot by Mercer 14-4, while the Bears had a 8-3 shots on goal advantage over the Lady Ospreys. Junior goalkeeper Rachael Howard recorded six saves in the game, while the Mercer keeper had two.
Mercer jumped on the board early scoring in the seventh minute, when Kacie Hudson collected a loose ball in the box and placed it into the net. Hudson foiled UNF's attempt to get on the board in the 39th minute, when she blocked an Elizabeth Gowan shot on goal.
The Lady Ospreys fought hard to get the equalizer, but were unable to do so as Mercer put another ball in the back of the net in the 81st minute. Lizzy Shaughnessy sealed the game for the Bears scoring on a breakaway.
UNF returns to action on Oct. 12 as it heads to Stetson. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
