Kennesaw State too much for young Ospreys

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida women's soccer team (3-7-1, 2-1-0 A-Sun) fell 2-0 to the defending Atlantic Sun Conference champions Kennesaw State on a wet and dreary night in North Florida.
UNF (3-7-1) were outshot by the Kennesaw State (8-2-0, 3-0-0 A-Sun) 15-3, while Kennesaw State had the advantage in shots on goal as well 10-2. Junior Rachael Howard had a busy day in goal recording eight saves, while the Kennesaw State net-minder had 2 saves.
The Owls jumped on the board early when Annie Phillips slipped the ball under a diving Howard in the 11th minute. Phillips notched her second goal of the game in the 24th minute, after taking the ball to goal herself.
The Lady Ospreys battled strong throughout the game, coming up with several near chances. Senior Jessica Jowers almost netted her second goal of the season off a corner kick in the 37th minute, but the ball pinged off the cross bar and out of bounds.
UNF returns to action on Oct. 7 at 2 p.m. as they take on the Mercer Bears at Hodges Stadium.
