UNF improves to 5-3 in A-Sun
Final Stats
BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The University of North Florida women's soccer team (6-9-1, 5-3 A-Sun) defeated the Campbell Camels 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in the teams final road game of the season.
UNF and Campbell were even in shots 8-8, while each having three shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Rachael Howard was hardly challenged coming up with two saves, while the Campbell keeper made one save.
Campbell put the Lady Ospreys on the board early, scoring an own goal in the 24th minute after misplaying a ball back to the keeper. Junior Elizabeth Gowan put UNF up 2-0 in the 42nd minute after putting a Kady Dearing pass in the back of the net. The play started with the Lady Ospreys mounting a counter attack and catching the Campbell defense sleeping, allowing Gowan to slip the ball past the diving goalkeeper.
Junior Elena Luzins nearly put UNF up 3-0 in the 57th minute after one touching the ball toward goal, after a Whitney Colburn cross. Campbell earned its own goal back in the 75th minute when it caught the UNF defense pushed too high.
Lauren Maze came close to earning the goal back in the 87th minute, after putting a UNF free kick on goal. Despite a couple of close calls in the second half of action, the Lady Ospreys were able to preserve a 2-1 victory.
With the win UNF re-enters a two way tie for third place in the Atlantic Sun Conference and continues its road unbeaten streak in conference. The Lady Ospreys return home on Oct. 26 when they face Lipscomb.
