
Florida Intercollegiate a success

GAINESVILLE, Fla.- The University of North Florida men's and women's track teams concluded its first meet of the short indoor season Saturday, as they competed in the Florida Intercollegiate.
The men's team wasted no time starting its first indoor season as a Division I program, as several freshmen ran their way into the top-20, including Fredrick Johansson. Johansson, who is coming off a stellar cross country season, finished the 3000m in second place (08:40.76) missing the top spot by three seconds. Fellow freshman Sammy Palmer also finished the 3000m in 09:11.87, giving him 20th place.
In the men's mile, freshman Jimmy Fitzpatrick finished in eighth place (04:30.62), shaving five seconds off his seed time. Jeff Auletta joined Fitzpatrick in the mile, finishing in 16th place after crossing the finish line in 04:39.45.
Freshmen Matt Dixon, Chris Fulcher and Craig Sinbine finished back-to-back in the 800m taking 18th, 19th and 20th place respectively. Dixon completed the race a minute ahead of Fulcher (02:06.36), with a time of 02:05.71. Sinbine finished in 02:07.79.
The women's team picked up where it left off last indoor season, immediately making some noise. The preliminaries of the 55m dash saw freshman Charisma Anderson finish in 36th place, with a time of 7.44. Freshman teammate Karissa Sullivan finished seconds after Anderson, taking 50th place with an overall time of 7.68.
In the 200m dash, freshman Andrea Hall finished 34th (27:28) missing the top spot by only three seconds. Anne DelBovo finished one second after Hall, giving her 42nd place (28:09). Women's captain Lauren DelBovo finished the 400m dash in 32nd place, after finishing the race in 01:05.41.
The freshmen weren't the only ones playing a big role in the meet, as several Lady Osprey veterans show cased what they could do. Senior Amber Smith was the first of the Lady Ospreys to finish the mile, crossing the line in 05:19.38 good enough for 11th place. Katie Heuertz and Madeline Parhalo were the next two Lady Ospreys to finish, taking 25th (05:47.83) and 26th (05:50.84) place respectively.
Senior Golden Creavy led the way in the 800m finishing in 18th place with a total time of 02:23.09. Sophomore Evelyn Moore wasn't far behind, finishing two seconds behind Creavy, with a time of 02:25.23 giving her 24th place. Hillary Adams (25th), Kayley DeLorm (37th) and Kelly Marshall (46th) also finished the 800m in the top-50.
The best individual placing of the day for the Lady Ospreys came from none other than Amanda Davey, who has had a sensational junior campaign. Davey, who competed in the 3000m, beat her previous best time in the race by five seconds, completing it in 10:30.97 and taking second place. Senior Sarah Coghlan, who also competed in the 3000m, finished in fourth place with a time of 10:40.71. Wendy Livingston and Lauren Vogel finished the race in 21st (11:17.33) and 22nd (11:25.47) place.
In the women's 4x400 relay the team of Lindsay Tafs, Amy Stroder, Sullivan and Moore finished in seventh place with a combined time of 04:02.28. In the high jump, freshman Elise Trexler took eighth place with a final height of 1.63m. Stroder and last years Atlantic Sun Conference Most Outstanding Field athlete Emily Kohler finished 9th (1.63m) and 10th (1.58m) respectively.
The Ospreys return to Gainesville in two weeks to compete in the Pepsi Invitational.
