
UNF rolls EMU, 5-2

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The North Florida women's tennis team continued its winning ways on Thursday afternoon, upending Eastern Michigan 5-2 at the UNF Tennis Complex.
The Lady Ospreys (7-5) won for the fifth time in six matches overall and improved to 3-1 at home this season.
UNF swept the doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead and got singles victories from Vanessa Sanchez at No. 1 (6-1, 6-2), Katja Brandt at No. 3 (7-6, 3-6, 10- 5), Florencia Torres at No. 4 (6-2, 6-4) and Lauren Cockbill at No. 5 (6-1, 6-4).
The only wins for Eastern Michigan (0-3) came at the Nos. 2 and 6 singles positions, where EMU's Aditi Krishnan rallied defeat UNF's Catalina Castillo in three sets (5-7, 6-4, 6-2) and Laura Fernandez downed UNF's Robin Rogers in a second-set tiebreaker, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2).
"The girls came out today with only one thing on their mind, to win," UNF assistant coach Julie Stoppelli said. "I like how the team is reacting to the pressure of competition. Regardless of the opponent, the kids are confident of themselves and of their team."
The Lady Ospreys will return to action on Saturday at the UNF Tennis Complex when they entertain Atlantic Sun Conference foe Mercer at 2:30 p.m.
