Broncos squeak past UNF

Feb. 26, 2006

Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - University of North Florida junior left-hander Jeremy Papelbon fanned a career-high eight batters, but the Jacksonville, Fla., native's effort wasn't enough to lift the Ospreys to a win as the squad dropped a 1-0 decision to Western Michigan on Sunday at Harmon Stadium.

Papelbon (1-1), who was named Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week of Feb. 20, suffered the loss despite allowing just one run on five hits. Papelbon gave way to senior right-hander Jared Incinelli in the seventh inning. Incinelli pitched the final three innings allowing just two hits and one walk, while striking out two Western Michigan batters.

The UNF offense was led by junior right fielder Jon Dandridge. The Florida Community College of Jacksonville transfer doubled to right center field in the bottom of the third inning.

Seniors Brennan Grogan and Grant Rogers, along with junior Damon Olinto and sophomore Jimmy Glanville each collected singles for the Ospreys (6-5).

Western Michigan right fielder Pedro Dager and shortstop Zach Gentile paced the Broncos (2-0) with two hits apiece.

Dager also scored the game's lone run after reaching base with a single in the second inning. Chris Onderlinde and Gentile followed Dager with singles of their own, Gentiles resulting in the game's only RBI.

UNF left eight runners on base in the game compared to six for the Broncos.

Freshman Ethan Hollingsworth (1-0) earned the win for Western Michigan. Sophomore Drew Mahan closed out the game to earn his first save of the season.

UNF and Western Michigan will wrap up their three-game series Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at Harmon Stadium.

The game will be carried live via the World Wide Web at www.UNFOspreys.com as well as on WIOJ-AM 1010. Mike Ridaught will be calling the play-by-play.
