JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida allowed only one hit and scored a combined 24 runs in a pair of wins over Savannah State University on Tuesday afternoon at UNF Softball Complex.
Katie Brosky, a graduate of Palatka High School, threw her first career no-hitter for the Lady Ospreys, while Stanton grad Jessica Sexton came in behind her and allowed only one hit and one unearned run in the second game.
UNF collected 13 hits in each game. Christina Evans led the way for the Lady Ospreys with two hits in each game to go along with four runs and four RBIs.
"It was a great day overall," UNF head coach Sonya Wilmoth said. "We stayed patient at the plate and got contributions from the whole team. The pitching was great all day as well. When you allow one hit in 10 innings, you can't beat that."
The Lady Ospreys (7-1) ended both games in five innings thanks to the mercy rule.
Brosky struck out eight in the opener and was only a walk away from throwing a perfect game.
Ashley Parenteau gave her all of the offense she needed in the bottom of the first, as UNF's leadoff hitter stroked a ball into the right field corner for an inside the park home run. Sexton finished the inning with an RBI double to center, while Caitlin Miller also drove home a run to help give UNF a 5-0 advantage.
The Lady Osprey sent 10 batters to the plate and added four runs to their total in the third before Tori Ahern came in to drive home the final run of the day with a double to right-center.
Evans, Miller, Sexton and Alisha Phillips all collected two hits apiece for UNF, with Miller and Sexton driving home a pair of runs.
UNF broke out on top in game two, scoring five runs in that contest in the first inning as Evans, Phillips and Kelli Richards all drove home a run in the bottom of the first. Parenteau led off the second inning with a triple to spark a three-run rally, then singled and scored in the third, before bringing home two more runs with a triple in the bottom of the fourth.
Evans also tripled in the nightcap, while Kelli Rutenbar and Ashley Shipman doubled in the third and fourth innings, respectively. The Lady Ospreys scored three more in the third before capping the scoring with a pair of runs in the fourth.
The Lady Tigers (0-4) collected their only run in the top of the fourth inning when Keisha Barkley reached on an error to open the inning and Kiana Smith delivered an RBI double that landed on the right field line.
That's all the further damage Sexton allowed. The sophomore struck out nine on the afternoon and only walked one.
Richards and Evans finished the contest with two hits, while Parenteau had three. Parenteau and Williams each drove home three runs.
UNF returns to the road this weekend when it heads to Charleston, S.C., for the Cougar Classic, beginning Friday with a matchup against Marshall at 12:30 p.m.
