DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The University of North Florida women's basketball team got off to cold shooting performances from the field in both halves against Bethune-Cookman and never could recover in a 57-40 loss at Moore Gymnasium Saturday.
The Lady Ospreys (2-6) shot 25 percent from the field for the game and turned the ball over 25 times, dropping to 0-2 all-time at Bethune-Cookman.
Jennifer Bowen scored 12 points in the effort and came up one rebound short of a double-double, pulling down a game high nine rebounds. Jennifer Guldager followed her with 11 points for the Lady Ospreys. BCC's Tristan McCray led all players with 18 points, hitting 7-of-10 shots from the field.
UNF missed its first eight shots of the game falling behind 14-2. The Lady Ospreys cut that 12-point deficit to six, but fell victim of a 4-0 BCC run to trail 20-10. The Wildcats eventually pushed that lead to 16 before a technical foul for having six players on the court helped lead to a 5-0 UNF run that closed out the opening half for the Lady Ospreys. Bowen scored three points after the technical, making one from the free throw line before hitting a layup from the right block. Bowen led all players in the half with seven points, while Sabrina Boykin had six for BCC.
Bethune-Cookman upped that lead to 17 in the first four minutes of the second half, as the Lady Ospreys came out of the gates hitting only one of their first nine shots. BCC eventually led by 22 before Guldager scored six of UNF's next eight points to trim the BCC advantage near the end of regulation.
Bethune-Cookman outrebounded UNF 42-37. UNF won the turnover battle, forcing 28 BCC turnovers, while finishing the game with 16 steals.
Antoinette Reames added to her A-Sun leading block total with one block, while Tamara Hubbard finished the game with five assists and two steals for UNF.
The Lady Ospreys will take a week off for finals before returning to action Dec. 18-19 at the UCF Holiday Classic. The Lady Ospreys will take on the hometown Golden Knights in the opening round of that event before taking on Georgia State the next day.
