NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Dec. 2, 2006) -
University of North Florida guard Jennifer Bowen
scored a career high 16 points, while Jennifer Guldager pulled down 12 rebounds to help the Lady
Ospreys capture a 53-44 win at Lipscomb Saturday.
The victory was the first conference win of the year
for UNF (2-5, 1-1 A-Sun) and first win on the road.
The Lady Ospreys forced Lipscomb (3-5, 1-1 A-Sun)
into 30 turnovers and held the Lady Bisons to 30
percent shooting from the field.
"We played well defensively and got off to a good
start, which is what we were looking for," UNF head
coach Mary Tappmeyer said. "We are looking for
Jennifer Bowen to shoot the ball 10-15 times a game
and if she can do that we will have a chance to win
every time out."
Bowen ended the game with a 13-for-15 performance
from the field.
UNF broke a 21-21 tie at the half, outscoring
Lipscomb 32-23 in the second frame. Three Lady
Ospreys finished the game in double figures, led by
Bowen. Shandrea Moore followed Bowen with 12
points to go along with five assists and three steals,
while Tamara Hubbard scored 11 and had four steals.
Miriam McAlister led the Lady Bisons with nine points
and 10 rebounds off the bench.
Moore gave the Lady Ospreys a 33-31 lead on a
driving layup with 13:57 to play, helping UNF put
together an 11-0 run that made the difference in the
contest.
Toia McGowan hit a layup with 3:56 to play to cut
the UNF advantage to 45-41. UNF, however, didn't
surrender another point until Dana Carrigan hit a 3-
pointer with five seconds to play. Moore scored four
points from the free throw line down the stretch to
help seal the win.
Lipscomb outrebounded the Lady Ospreys 38-33,
while committing 30 turnovers compared to 19 for
the Lady Ospreys.
Antoinette Reames followed Guldager on the boards
with five rebounds, while moving into fourth place on
the all-time UNF blocks list with three blocks.
UNF had 19 steals on the game, led by Hubbard and
Bowen, who each had four.
The Lady Ospreys got off to a hot start on the
offensive end, hitting four of their first nine shots to
take a 9-6 advantage. The Lady Ospreys also
grabbed four offensive rebounds in the first five
minutes of play and saw Bowen score five of the
team's first nine points. After a five-minute scoring
lull, UNF went back on the offensive attack with a 6-
0 run.
Lipscomb countered with a 10-0 run of its own to
take a 20-16 advantage. Thanks to a Moore steal
and Bowen's ninth point of the game UNF found its
way back into the contest and went into the locker
room tied 21-21. Bowen led all players with nine
points in the half, while Reames had seven for UNF.
Penny Jones finished the half with six points for the
Lady Bisons.
