BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Gardner-Webb University hit seven 3-point attempts in the second half to extend a four-point halftime lead and defeat the University of North Florida, 74-59 Saturday in Boiling Springs, N.C.
Gardner-Webb (5-9, 4-3 A-Sun) shot 60 percent from the field in the second half and 50 percent for the game to hand the Lady Ospreys (4-10, 2-4 A- Sun) their seventh-straight loss on the road.
UNF is now 1-7 away from home this season.
Sequenta Blackman led the 3-point attack for Gardner-Webb, hitting 4-of-6 shots from long range to score 12 of her game high 14 points.
Tamara Hubbard and Alana Mountfield led the Lady Ospreys with 10 points, while Jennifer Guldager scored eight points and pulled down seven rebounds.
Blackman hit 3-point baskets on back-to-back trips down the court before Trisha Bennett followed those trips up with a 3-pointer of her own to give the Runnin' Bulldogs a 41-33 advantage. Candyse Kelly followed those baskets with another 3-pointer for Gardner-Webb, before Hubbard finally stopped the bleeding with a 3-pointer of her own.
The Lady Ospreys never pulled closer than 11 points the rest of the game.
Gardner-Webb outrebounded UNF 34-27, but committed 26 turnovers in the game, compared to 22 for UNF.
The Lady Ospreys shot 40.8 percent from the field for the game and hit 4-of-14 shots beyond the arc.
Jackie Beik missed out on scoring in double digits for the seventh game in a row, finishing the contest with eight points and four rebounds. Beik scored six of her points in the opening half.
A trio of Bulldogs - Shameka Smith, Laura Pavilonyte and Brittany Harmon - each scored nine points. Smith led all players with nine rebounds.
The same offensive woes that UNF experienced in the second half against Campbell on Thursday carried over to Gardner-Webb in the opening half. UNF trailed 19-12 with 7:49 to play in the opening half, but rallied to close the half on a 12-8 run, trailing 27- 24 at the break.
Andrea Dill scored seven points in a row to help spark the run and Jennifer Bowen added a 3-pointer with the shot clock winding down after she tracked down a loose ball in the backcourt. Dill led the Lady Ospreys at the half with seven points, while Beik followed her with six.
Harmon paced the Bulldogs with eight points in the half.
The Lady Ospreys return home for a pair of games next week when they host Stetson on Thursday at 5 p.m., followed by a matchup against Mercer next Saturday at 2 p.m. Live coverage of the games can be heard at www.unfospreys.com.
