SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Feb. 26, 2005) - The University of North Florida women's tennis team celebrated its jump in the national rankings by defeating yet another ranked opponent. UNF, now ranked No. 4 in the nation, took care of No. 13 USC Upstate 6-3 on Saturday. The Lady Ospreys improve to 6-0 on the season, and 2-0 in Peach Belt Conference play.
"I am very happy about our girls jumping in the rankings," UNF head coach Tom Schrader said. "They have done a very good job so far, but it is easier to get to a top position than it is to maintain it. We will see how they do."
As for Saturday's match, Schrader was impressed with his team's ability to handle the pressure of a conference match on the road. "The girls played very hard today," he said. "USC Upstate was ready to go, and we dealt with the pressure very well."
North Florida, previously ranked No. 7 in the nation, has now defeated three nationally ranked teams in the first six matches of the season.
UNF will continue conference play on March 4, when they travel to take on Columbus State at 2 p.m.
