"It's been big for us to earn these conference wins," UNF head coach Mike Munch said. "The conference race is tight, and there's really not a great deal of difference in the talent level of any of the teams, so you know that each match is going to be a battle. Unfortunately we played arguably the two best teams in the conference right off the bat and kind of put ourselves behind the eight ball with the losses, but we've climbed back into things. We just have to keep playing hard and competing."
UNF freshman forward Elizabeth Gowan tallied her third goal of the season, and her second game-winning goal in the last two matches, at the 69:20 mark of the match when the Palm City, Fla., native netted the ball from 18-yards out to lift the Lady Ospreys (7-5-1, 5-2-0 A-Sun) to the win.
"I felt like in the first half we forced things some," Munch said. "At halftime I talked to the girls about being patient and making sure we got some good opportunities to score. Right there close to the end of the match we were able to string some good passes together and get Liz a good look at the net and she scored a nice goal for us."
Senior forward Ali Blochl and junior forward Christine Brewer each recorded an assist on the goal. For Blochl the assist was her third of the season, while Brewer has now tallied two assists.
