JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida women's basketball head coach Mary Tappmeyer has announced the signing Kianna Conner to a National Letter of Intent. Connor joins Bre Crum, who signed with the Ospreys in November, as part of this year's signing class.
“We are very excited about Kianna joining our family,” said head coach Mary Tappmeyer. “She brings experience and adds another scoring presence to our guard position. Kianna is a versatile guard that has deep range and a quick release.”
Conner will enter UNF as a junior after playing her freshman season at Delaware State and her sophomore year at Broward Community College. She comes off a stellar season playing for Kevin Johnson at Broward, earning First-Team NJCAA All-Region VIII, FCSAA All-State and FCSAA All-Southern Conference honors. Conner was the Seahawks' top leading scorer, averaging 19.1 points that ranked 11th nationally and second in the state of Florida. She shot 41 percent from the field, including 40 percent from three-point range, and was a 71 percent free throw shooter. Conner also averaged 2.3 assists per game and 1.5 steals per game.
Prior to attending Broward Community College, Conner was a member of Delaware State's team during the 2010-11 season. She led the Lady Hornets in scoring with 10.2 points per game, starting in 22 of 29 games as a freshman and earning a spot on the All-MEAC Freshman Team.
Conner graduated from Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and played under Marcia Pinder – Florida's all-time winningest girls basketball coach. She helped Dillard to a 2009-10 FHSAA 5A State Championship and four Big 8 titles.
“I'm looking forward to working hard and winning a conference title as an Osprey,” said Conner. “UNF has a wonderful environment with great academics and coaches.”
Conner is the daughter of Kavice Conner and Jaquelice James.
