Men’s Tennis to Host Crosstown Rival Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's tennis team will conclude Atlantic Sun regular season action with a SunTrust River City Rumble battle on Tuesday, April 6 when the Ospreys host crosstown rival Jacksonville at 2 p.m. at the UNF Tennis Complex.

The Ospreys (15-7, 6-3 A-Sun) have already secured a spot in the 2010 Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Tennis Championships. Currently UNF and Campbell both have 6-3 records, but with a win over JU the Ospreys would secure the No. 3 seed. The Dolphins have clinched the No. 5 seed for the championships.

Junior Hleb Maslau has a 16-6 overall record, including 7-2 in the league. Maslau has played in every singles spot except the No. 6 this season, but has the most matches at No. 3 where he is 7-2. Senior Kurt Gattiker and freshman Daniel Sotomarino are both 11-4 on the season. Gattiker has played primarily at No. 6 (9-4) while Sotomarino has seen the most time at No. 5 (5-2), but has recently been playing at No. 2 (3-1). Sotomarino has also posted an 8-1 A-Sun record this season.

UNF is coming off a 5-2 loss at No. 55 ETSU. Sotomarino and Leonardo Nahar secured points for the Ospreys at the No. 2 and No. 5 singles matches, respectively. Sotomarino defeated Grega Teraz, 7-6, 7-6 (8-6) while Nahar dropped Jesus Bandres, 6-2, 7-5.

The Dolphins (9-10, 4-5 A-Sun) are coming off a 6-1 loss to ETSU. JU was picked to finish eighth in the 2010 A-Sun Preseason Coaches' Poll after losing a pair of First Team All-Conference players, Jordi Ballester and Francisco Riveroll, in the offseason.

Following Tuesday's match the Ospreys will wrap up the regular season on the road in Murfreesboro, Tenn. where UNF will face Middle Tennessee State on Saturday, April 10 at 1 p.m. They will remain in Murfreesboro, to face Memphis on Sunday, April 11 at 10 a.m.
