Men’s Tennis to Host a Pair of Matches

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's tennis team will host a pair of matches beginning with South Carolina State on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 11 a.m. On Sunday, Feb. 7 the Ospreys will host Florida Atlantic in a 10 a.m. match. Both matches will be played at the UNF Tennis Complex.

The Ospreys (2-1) are coming off a pair of wins in doubleheader action last weekend. UNF defeated Florida A&M, 4-2 in the morning match and followed that up with a 5-2 win over Bethune-Cookman in the afternoon.

UNF picked up wins in No. 2-5 singles in both matches and also won the doubles point. Freshman Taylor Albrecht won both of his No. 2 singles matches and junior Hleb Maslau added wins in the No. 3. Junior Graham Edgar picked up wins in the No. 4 while senior Kurt Gattiker picked up the decisions in the No. 5.

Gattker and Albrecht also teamed up to win the No. 1 doubles in both matches while freshman Leonardo Nahar teamed up with Maslau to pick up wins in the No. 2 doubles.

South Carolina State (0-1) fell to Davidson, 7-0 in its first match of the spring season, but the Bulldogs were picked to win the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference southern division preseason poll.

The Bulldogs won the MEAC Championship in 2009 and picked up their fifth conference title in six years. S.C. State returns All-MEAC first team selections, Tomas Dobrotka and Radek Pivonka.

Florida Atlantic (1-1) dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 21 Miami in its first outing of the spring season. The Owls are led by Marc Abdelnour who finished the 2009 season with a 116th national ITA ranking. FAU finished the 2009 season ranked 14th in the Southeast Regional.

Following this weekend's home contests, the Ospreys will take to the road for a Saturday, Feb. 13 match at Elon and a Sunday, Feb. 14 match at Winthrop.
