Biography

Outlook: One of four seniors on this year[apos]s team, and a returning starter, Ashwell is expected to anchor the post position for the Ospreys ... enjoyed a strong second half last season ... a strong body with good quickness and nice hands ... dropped 10 pounds during offseason ... ranks 19th in career scoring entering 2005-06, 12th in field goals made, eighth in field goal percentage and 13th in rebounding. Quoting Kilcullen: [quote]We want David to build on how he finished last year, when he really became a tremendous force inside on both ends of the floor. He has the strength and ability to dictate what happens in the paint. We will need him to be a consistent presence for our team this year.[quote] As a junior, 2004-05: Played in all 31 games, starting 26 at center ... averaged 7.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 0.2 blocks per game ... shot .575 for the season from the floor, which ranked third in the Peach Belt Conference ... finished second on the team with 149 rebounds (19th in PBC) but led the squad with 58 offensive rebounds ... led the team in scoring twice, with 18 points against Georgia College & State on Feb. 2 and 14 points against USC Aiken on Feb. 19 ... led team in rebounding four times, including a career-high-tying 11 twice -- against Augusta State on Jan. 15 and USC Aiken in the opening round of the Peach Belt Tournament on March 2 ... scored in double figures 11 times and had double-figure rebounds three times ... struggled through team[apos]s first 16 games, averaging just 4.6 points and 13 minutes per game while attempting just 57 field goals ... after a mid-season injury to James Grimball, however, Ashwell took over the starting center role and exploded in the second-half, scoring in double figures in 11 of the team[apos]s final 15 games ... during his final 15 contests, Ashwell averaged 11.4 points and 6.6 rebounds per game and shot .581 from the floor with 117 field goal attempts ... tallied his second career double-double against USC Aiken in the season[apos]s final game with 16 points and 11 rebounds ... finished third on the team among regular players in free throw percentage, hitting for 71.2 percent from the stripe (42-59) ... played 30 or more minutes in a game five times, including a career-high 37 against Francis Marion on Jan. 22 ... named to the 2004-05 Peach Belt Presidential Honor Roll. As a sophomore, 2003-04: Played in every game as a sophomore, starting 20 at center ... averaged 6.6 points and 3.9 rebounds ... his 11 blocks ranked third on the team ... shot 51 percent from the floor (73-of-143), which ranked second on the team ... scored in double figures five times and tallied double-figure rebounds twice ... started team[apos]s first 15 games before losing starting position ... returned to the starting lineup in five of UNF[apos]s final six games ... recorded a double-double in his first game of the season at Fayetteville State (Nov. 16), scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds on an 8-of-10 shooting night ... didn[apos]t score in double figures again for five games, when he tallied 14 against Caldwell (Dec. 19) ... grabbed a season-high 11 rebounds vs. Francis Marion (Jan. 24) ... scored 10 points against eventual Division II national champion Kennesaw State (Feb. 14). As a freshman, 2002-2003: Played in 26 games, hitting 25 of 60 shots taken for an average of 41.7 percent ... shot 72 percent from the free throw line ... finished with 69 points for the season ... matched his season high of 10 points in both games against Lander University, going a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line in both contests ... ranked second in points scored among the team[apos]s freshmen in 2002-03 ... had a season-high five rebounds at Florida Southern on Dec. 17.
