Volleyball Drops Gritty Match To William & Mary

BOONE, N.C. - North Florida Volleyball dropped its final match in the Mountaineer Classic against William & Mary, 3-1, at Holmes Convocation Center on Sunday.
Second year outside hitter Leah McDonald matched her career-high in digs with 12 total, in addition to 12 kills on .345 hitting and four total blocks.
Third year outside hitter Dakota Spurrier posted a team-high 15 kills. Fourth year outside hitter Kaili Doctor added 14 kills, eight digs and two aces.
Second year setter Sofia Dawson facilitated the offense with a team-high 42 assists.
UNF 1, W&M 3 (25-22, 26-28, 20-25, 22-25)
SET ONE:
Spurrier and Doctor each put down kills to help give North Florida an early lead. Doctor reached five kills just midway through the frame as UNF led, 15-13, entering the initial media timeout. First year libero/defensive specialist Brooklyn Stringfellow notched an ace to give the Ospreys a 23-20 advantage before UNF secured the set.
SET TWO:
Spurrier reached seven kills on .400 hitting early in the frame. Fourth year middle blocker Yarimar Francis Garay registered her third block of the match to cut William & Mary's lead to 15-12. William & Mary used a 4-1 run down the stretch to secure the set.
SET THREE:
William & Mary tallied 19 kills to help earn a 2-1 lead in the match.
SET FOUR:
Stringfellow reached her career-high third ace. McDonald put down three clutch kills, allowing the Ospreys to take a 17-16 advantage. William & Mary closed out the set on a 6-3 run en route to securing the match.

North Florida will play in its fourth in-season tournament in as many weekends at the Eagle Invitational from September 18-20 in Statesboro, Ga. The Ospreys will face Fordham on Friday, Sept. 18 at 11 a.m. ET.
