Gilleland Earns First Career Win, Volleyball Splits Doubleheader At Classic City Clash

ATHENS, Ga. - North Florida Volleyball Head Coach Abby Gilleland secured her first career win, defeating Furman, 3-1, at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens, Ga., on Friday. The Ospreys dropped the first match of their doubleheader in the Classic City Clash against Georgia, 3-0.
UNF 0, UGA 3 (21-25, 19-25, 14-25)
SET ONE:
Second year outside hitter Leah McDonald reached three kills just midway through the set. Fifth year outside hitter Kaili Doctor helped North Florida tie the score, 15-15, with a kill. From there, neither side led by more than two points until Georgia took a 22-19 advantage before securing the set.
SET TWO:
A pair of early kills from McDonald and Doctor allowed North Florida to narrowly trail, 6-4, early in the frame. With the score knotted at seven, Doctor posted back-to-back kills to give North Florida a 9-7 lead. Spurrier extended North Florida's advantage to 13-11 with a kill amid the set. Georgia regained the lead, 17-16, and held the edge until the set reached its final margin.
SET THREE:
Georgia jumped out to a 12-3 lead in the frame. The Bulldogs used a 4-1 run down the stretch to bring the match to its final margin.

SET ONE:
Fourth year libero Emma Pohlmann helped give the Ospreys an early 3-0 lead with an ace. Spurrier registered back-to-back kills to tie the set, 8-8. McDonald and Spurrier notched back-to-back kills amid the set to tie the score, 15-15. Furman went on a 5-1 run down the stretch to secure the set.
SET TWO:
Doctor reached six kills on .333 hitting in the early stages of the frame. Her eighth kill of the match gave the Ospreys a 12-9 advantage. Dawson reached 20 assists and five digs midway through the set. A clutch kill by second year middle blocker Haleina Bowers extended North Florida's lead to 18-16 before the Ospreys secured the set.
SET THREE:
Doctor reached a match-high 13 kills on .524 hitting early in the frame. Furman commanded a 15-12 lead, though back-to-back kills from Spurrier and Doctor pulled the Ospreys within one point. Two-straight kills from Doctor late in the frame helped seal the win.
SET FOUR:
Dawson reached 40+ assists and 10+ digs total to start the set. Doctor set a new career-high, reaching 24 kills amid the frame. Bowers added a kill, allowing UNF to take an 18-13 lead. Pohlmann notched the match-winning point with an ace.
