Women's Tennis Ties Best Start Since 2007 With Sweep At Presbyterian

CLINTON, S.C. – North Florida Women's Tennis remained unbeaten and moved to 8-0 on the season when it swept Presbyterian, 7-0, at Templeton Center Tennis Courts on Thursday.

North Florida's undefeated mark this spring ties its best record to start a season since UNF was 8-0 to open the 2007 campaign.

North Florida raced out to early leads on the one and two lines in doubles action. Senior Laurie Barendse and graduate student Isabel Oliveira led 4-1 at one and graduate student Anslee Long and sophomore Gabby Goyins led 3-1 at two. Barendse and Oliveira secured their court, 6-1, while freshman May Fadida and sophomore Aryana Bartlett clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win at three.

The Ospreys secured first-set wins in singles from Oliveira, Bartlett, Goyins, Long and senior Jasmin Makela on five of six courts. Barltett dominated on court three, 6-4, 6-3, while Long added another solid win, 7-6, 6-2, on court five. Oliveira clinched the match win for North Florida with a win on court two, 7-5, 6-3.

Goyins remained unbeaten with her eighth singles win of the season, 6-4, 6-2, on court four. Makela extended North Florida's lead to 6-0 on court six, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. Barendse secured the sweep for North Florida in come-from-behind fashion at the one, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0.
