Baseball Surges Past Stetson In Game Two

JACKSONVILLE. Fla. – North Florida baseball evened its weekend series against Stetson with an 11-9 victory in game two at Harmon Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Ospreys allowed two runs in the first inning but fought back with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the frame. Senior Connor Moore drove in UNF's first run of the game with a double down the left-field line, scoring sophomore Mitchell Collins who reached on a single.

Junior Santiago Ordonez tied the game in the ensuing at bat with an RBI single to right center. Stetson took its final lead of the game in the third with a sacrifice fly to center field.

A massive four-run fourth inning from the Ospreys put North Florida back ahead 6-3. Junior Eric Fouraker tied the score with an RBI single to left field, scoring Moore who reached on a lead-off walk.

The Ospreys scored their next three runs in the next three at bats. Redshirt junior James Oman drove a base hit to give the Ospreys a one-run advantage.

From there, senior Drew Leinenbach put down a sacrifice bunt to score Fouraker from third. Redshirt sophomore Nick Monile followed with a double down the left-field line to give the Ospreys a three-run lead. It was deja vu for Monile in the sixth inning, sending yet another double down the line in left, this time plating two insurance runs for the Ospreys to command an 8-4 lead.

Moore added to the Ospreys lead in the sixth with a sacrifice fly to center, putting UNF ahead, 9-4. The Hatters responded with one run in the top of the seventh, though the Ospreys earned their largest lead of the contest in the bottom half of the frame.

Senior Brady Browning advanced home on a wild pitch, giving North Florida a 10-5 advantage. Then, Monile sent a sacrifice fly to center field in the next at bat to plate Fouraker from third, giving the Ospreys a six-run edge. Stetson mustered a four-run ninth inning, but it wasn't enough to overcome its deficit.
