Men's Golf Tied For Eighth To Open ASUN Championship

VALDOSTA, Ga. - North Florida men's golf started its opening round of postseason play tied for eighth at the ASUN Championship on Tuesday afternoon.

The Ospreys were led by Justin Ross and Danny Erickson, who both scored under par in their first round of the conference tournament. Ross ended his day with four birdies, including three over the last four holes, while Erickson matched his birdie total with four as well to both stand among the top 20 overall.

ROUND REFLECTIONS

  • Ross went on a run of 16 of 17 holes with par or better with two different runs of six straight pars to be 2-under 70 and tied for 13th overall as the Ospreys' best score after day one.
  • The redshirt junior is sixth among the field in par-four scoring average at 1-under.
  • Erickson put together a strong finish with a 2-under score over his last six holes to be 1-under 71 among the top 20.
  • Both Ross and Erickson share a par-three scoring average mark of 1-under to be among the top four in the tournament.
  • Jason Duff places just outside the top 25 overall scoring par in 13 of the last 14 holes to be even-par 72 on the day.
  • The redshirt senior ranked seventh through the first 18 holes for pars with 14 total.
  • Both Erickson and Duff are top 10 in par-five scoring average with a 2-under mark.
  • Filippo Serra scored two birdies over the first four holes for a hot start to be 1-over 73.
  • He's alone at the top in the tournament for par-five scoring average at 4-under, as he scored two birdies and an eagle on par-five holes in the first round.
  • The redshirt sophomore is one of four players to score eagle in the opening round.
  • Brett Schell was the team leader in birdies with six total on his way to closing the group out with a 4-over 76 round.
  • UNF were top four in par-three average (1-over) and top five in par-five average (6-under).
  • The Ospreys were also one of four teams to have a player make an eagle in the first round, while totaling 18 birdies and 53 pars through 18 holes of play.
