Ospreys Sweep Home Conference Opener
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida women's tennis swept Bellarmine, 7-0, in its ASUN opener early Tuesday afternoon at UNF Tennis Complex.
The Ospreys had an early start off on the right foot with Isabel Oliveira and Nicole Alfaro Solis taking down their top-flight pair. Laurie Barendse joined Alisa Lyshko, as the sophomore made her first appearance since Jan. 24 against Furman, to notch a 6-2 win to clinch the doubles point.
Barendse continued her dominance with a clean 6-0, 6-2 sweep over Bellarmine on court one to grow the Ospreys' lead to 2-0. Aryana Bartlett and Alisa Lyshko were right behind the junior on courts three and six to deliver UNF the win.
North Florida continued to play the match through with another set of sweeps from Gabby Goyins and Jasmin Makela. Isabel Oliveira went to a three-set tiebreaker after dropping the first set, but pulled out the 10-8 tiebreaker win to close out a successful conference opener.
North Florida will take a week to prepare for its next match back in non-conference play against Presbyterian on Tuesday, Mar. 11, set for 11 a.m., at UNF Tennis Complex.
