Volleyball Drops Match At Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida Volleyball showed relentless effort in the first matchup of its River City Rumble series, but fell to Jacksonville, 3-0, at Swisher Gymnasium on Thursday evening.
UNF 0, JU 3 (20-25, 21-25, 19-25)
Set 1: North Florida used a 6-1 run amid the set that featured two kills from junior outside hitter Kaili Doctor and four kills from freshman opposite hitter Kendall Newbold to cut the Ospreys' deficit to 17-14. Down the stretch, Newbold tallied an ace and Dawson notched a pair of kills, though Jacksonville earned the victory.
Set 2: The Ospreys surged out to 5-2 advantage behind a pair of kills from graduate outside hitter Kailey McKnight. Newbold and Doctor followed with one kill each, extending North Florida's lead to 11-9. A 6-1 spurt for North Florida with back-to-back kills posted by Newbold saw the Ospreys' lead grow as large as 16-10, however Jacksonville made a strong comeback in the latter stages to secure the win.
Set 3: Freshman setter Sofia Dawson started the set with an ace and a kill to give North Florida a quick 2-0 edge. Jacksonville took a 14-10 lead amid the set, though North Florida showed incredible fight with a pair of kills from senior opposite hitter Mackenzie Piester to bring the Ospreys within one point of the Dolphins. Jacksonville ended the set on a 7-2 run, bringing the match to its final margin.
