
UNF Women’s STEM and Athletics Scholarship Luncheon Presented by JEA Announced

Donna Orender Set to Be Keynote Speaker
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida Athletics is excited to announce Donna Orender as the keynote speaker at the UNF Women's STEM and Athletics Scholarship Luncheon Presented by JEA slated for Sept. 17. The event will be held at the Adam W. Herbert University Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. that afternoon.Â

1010xl reporter Mia O'Brien will emcee the event that will announce 10 female student-athletes as scholarship recipients for those majoring in a STEM focused field. The Bowl'd Ladies organization within the Taxslayer Gator Bowl will serve as the sponsor of the event and keynote speaker.
Those in attendance will have the opportunity to hear from female leaders in the region on topics related to working in STEM, sports, business and more. The unique event offers an intimate opportunity for leaders in the Jacksonville community to network with current student-athletes and build relationships for future opportunities.Â

Donna Orender is a highly respected corporate business leader, having led growth and innovation in several high-profile companies. She has been recognized as one of the top 10 Most Powerful Women in Sports and one of Newsweek's 100 most Influential people in the business of sports and media. She is also a best-selling author with her 2018 release of Wowsdom! the Girl's Guide to the Positive and the Possible.

Her career began in sports media, working for big corporate entities such as Cap Cities and challenger/start-up companies like Rainbow Programming. She even helmed her own media company before being recruited to the PGA TOUR. She led transformational growth during her 17 years at the PGA Tour, leading global production, programming, distribution, brand management, digital and television strategy, and negotiations, working in the Office of the Commissioner. She was recruited by Adam Silver to become the 2nd President of the WNBA, the Women's National Basketball League, where the double-digit growth during her leadership in all business metrics was achieved against a very tough business environment and solidified the league.Â
It was that leadership of an iconic brand and business that represented strong women and girls that led Donna to create GENERATION W, a brand focused on educating, inspiring, and connecting women and girls with the goal of creating a national thought leadership platform. The platform evolved to include Generation WOW, a teen mentoring program where the leaders of today meet the leaders of tomorrow, and Generation WORKS, a day devoted to leadership and leaving a lasting legacy of community engagement.Â
Donna was a seven-sport athlete. She is a Hall of Fame Queens College basketball player and pursued graduate studies at Adelphi University. Donna also played three years in the Women's Professional Basketball League, earning all-star status before starting her business career. She serves on public and private not-for-profit company boards to round out her professional portfolio.
