Second Clean Sheet in Three Matches for UNF
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida women's soccer battened down the hatches to hold the Florida Gators to a 0-0 draw in its home opener in front of a crowd of 2,792 for Community Soccer Night Thursday, Aug. 22. The Ospreys played resolute defense in order to produce its second clean sheet of the campaign.Â
UNF had two golden opportunities to take the lead in the 70th minute after Masen Frey forced a save from a well-placed shot in the bottom corner. Paige McSwigan swung in a corner kick that fell into the path of Zara Siassi, who attempted a bicycle kick to open the score, but was denied by the goalkeeper.Â
The Ospreys recorded its second 0-0 draw in as many regular season contests against the Gators. The result marks back-to-back ties against Florida after the two sides met in an exhibition match last season.Â
North Florida has played to either a win or draw against two Power Four programs this season.

- First Half: The Gators got off to a solid start, forcing six shots in the first half … Goalkeeper Sofia Miliancano stepped up, making two saves in order to keep Florida at bay … Florida managed to stifle the Osprey offense, not giving up a single shot in the opening period … The UNF defense stood strong as nothing was able to separate the two sides at the break.Â
- Second Half: The Osprey offense sparked to life in the second half as Bella Pontieri saw a shot drift just wide of the post right out of the break … in the 70th minute, Frey charged forward putting a shot on frame and forcing a save from Jayden Emmanuel … McSwigan whipped in a corner kick that found Siassi, who attempted the spectacular, going for a bicycle kick to take the lead, her effort was denied by Emmanuel … the Ospreys were able to hold on for the final minutes in order to secure its second clean sheet in three matches.Â
