JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida volleyball reveals its full 31-match schedule for the 2024 season highlighted by its home match early in the year against Florida State on Tuesday, Sept. 10, as announced by head coach
Kristen Wright and his staff on Thursday afternoon.
Including their matchup against FSU, the Ospreys will host a total of 13 home matches at UNF Arena, including eight against ASUN Conference opponents. The season opener will commence at home on Friday, Aug. 30, against Rhode Island, and will round out its home slate on senior night against Queens on Saturday, Nov. 9.
UNF will face four total Power Five opponents with NC State, Boston College and LSU on deck after facing the Seminoles throughout the month of September. They will be involved in three road tournament weekends at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, South Florida, and LSU, along with its season-opening home weekend with a trio of matches from Aug. 30-31 at UNF Arena.
"We have a great balance in our schedule, which will allow us to be challenged and have opportunities to build tremendous confidence at optimal times throughout our different seasons," said Wright. "We're excited about adding our exhibition early and having a team at the caliber of Florida State come to play us at home in our non-conference scheduling. We can't wait to get our community behind us at home in what will be an exciting and fruitful year."
Non-Conference Tournament Slate
After its home exhibition match against College of Charleston on Friday, Aug, 16, North Florida volleyball will start its season with a three-match opening weekend slate against Rhode Island, Quinnipiac and Mercer. It will be the first time that the Ospreys will open its season at home since the shortened 2021 spring season.
After a midweek appearance at Florida A&M for its road opener on Tuesday, Sept. 3, they head to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for another tournament weekend against Texas A&M-CC, Texas Southern and former ASUN opponent, Jacksonville State. It will be the first of three road multi-team event weekends, as they other two will be hosted at USF and LSU.
The Ospreys return home for its fourth and final home non-conference match before opening up ASUN play on Tuesday, Sept. 10, against Florida State at UNF Arena. It will be the first time that UNF has hosted a Power Five opponent since the 2021 season against Virginia Tech, where they won 3-2 in a five-set thriller.
UNF gets back on the road for back-to-back weekends for its longest away stretch of the season, starting at USF to face the Bulls and NC State from Sept. 12-13. They will then head to Baton Rouge, La., to face off against a stacked field of Boston College, San Diego and LSU from Sept. 19-20.
After the first two conference matches from Sept. 26-28, the Ospreys will see College of Charleston again on Tuesday, Oct. 1, after facing them in an exhibition back in August. The non-conference finale will take place at home on Wednesday, Oct. 23, where they will have a rematch against Florida A&M at the midpoint of the conference schedule.
ASUN Conference Play
The conference slate for UNF volleyball kicks off on Thursday, Sept. 26, in the River City Rumble against Jacksonville in UNF Arena, followed with a matchup against Central Arkansas at home two days later. They continue ASUN play with another home weekend from Oct. 4-5 against in-state rivals, Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast.
The Ospreys' first road trip on the conference schedule will take place against the newest ASUN teams, traveling to take on Queens on Thursday, Oct. 11, and West Georgia on Saturday, Oct. 13. They return home the following weekend to play against Lipscomb and Austin Peay from Oct. 18-19.
After an away weekend from Oct. 25-27 with matches up north against Bellarmine and Eastern Kentucky, UNF will be slated for a rematch in the River City Rumble across town at Jacksonville on Wednesday, Oct. 30. The weekend and four-game road trip will end with a Sunday trip to North Alabama on Nov. 3.
Rematches against West Georgia and Queens will highlight the final home stand of the season from Nov. 8-9, as the Ospreys will recognize its senior players over the weekend. The final games will be played on the road with return matches against FGCU and Stetson from Nov. 15-17, followed with the ASUN Championship tournament from Nov. 21-23 and the NCAA Tournament from Dec. 5-22.
