Men's Golf Starts National Championship Appearance

Ospreys Start Opening Round at 19-Over, Gabrelcik Tied For 41st Overall

CARLSBAD, Calif. - In a national field that hosts 30 teams and 154 players, North Florida men's golf started its opening round of the NCAA Championship with a combined team score of 19-over to sit tied for 27th overall on Friday afternoon.

The Ospreys teed off the early start window with Nick Gabrelcik leading the way for a 2-over 74 that included a pair of birdies on the first and last holes of the back nine. He sits with a share of 41st overall on the player's leaderboard through 18 holes out on the West Coast.

ROUND REFLECTIONS

  • Gabrelcik started off with seven straight pars and ended his round with a birdie to be tied for 41st at 2-over 74.
  • The senior currently leads the team in par-five scoring average at 2-under, which is top 12 among the stacked field.
  • Robbie Higgins sneaks into the top 100 after his birdie to start the back nine helped him to a 5-over 77 score.
  • Davis Lee rebounded from a rough start on the first hole to join Higgins among the top 100 players with an identical 5-over 77 mark.
  • The senior joins Gabrelcik as the only two Ospreys to record two or more birdies on the day.
  • Jason Duff used a solid first nine holes and a top-15 average mark on par-three holes at even-par to card 7-over 79.
  • Duff, Gabrelcik and Higgins each notched a team-leading 12 pars during their Friday performance.
  • Andrew Riley joined Duff with the even-par par-three average score to round out the group at 9-over 81.
  • The Ospreys were among the top-10 teams in par-three scoring average at 5-over in the first round.
  • UNF strung together 54 pars and six birdies total through 18 holes as a team.
