Defeated Stetson, 4-0, in Final, Scott Named ASUN Tournament MVP
FORT MYERS, Fla. -Â North Florida men's tennis defeated the No. 3 Stetson, 4-0, in the conference tournament final to secure its third-ever ASUN Championship title in program history on Sunday afternoon. Andreas Scott was awarded ASUN Tournament MVP honors, while Juan Pablo Cenoz was also picked to the ASUN All-Tournament Team.
The Ospreys started off with Jonas Hartenstein and Rodrigo Crespo winning 6-2 on line one for the Ospreys in doubles play. From there it was not so simple, as lines two and three both went to tiebreaks to break up their 6-6 deadlocks.
The Hatters picked up line three to then leave it to the doubles team of Juan Pablo Cenoz and PJ Kotan on line two for UNF. The doubles squad was able to pull through for the Ospreys winning, 7-6 (7-5), while overcoming an initial 5-1 deficit in the process.
UNF was able to ride that high wave into singles, as they won eight of the twelve sets played before the match went final. Scott answered first by backing up last night's heroics with an impressive straight-set victory to put the Ospreys up, 2-0.
Next up was Cenoz, who won his tough match in straight sets, while overcoming a 4-1 deficit in the first set. All the eyes were then set upon Crespo, whose match was closest to completion. The senior pulled through for UNF and ultimately clinched the ASUN title for the Ospreys.
North Florida now has earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tennis Championships, in which they will await their opponent on Monday, April 29, during the NCAA Tennis Championship selection show.
