BOCA RATON, Fla. - North Florida baseball (5-3) pulled off an impressive seesaw victory against Florida Atlantic (4-4) on Wednesday evening.
Tripp McKinlay delivered a go-ahead two-run single in the ninth, which was enough for the Ospreys to pick up a win. The victory is the first road win of the '24 season and the first victory in Boca Raton in program history.
FAU got on the board first, thanks to a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Starter
Brett Dennis would settle down and deliver a scoreless second and third inning. North Florida would take the lead in the fourth inning, scoring four runs against the Owls.
Cade Bush would get things going with an RBI single to tie the game.
Matthew Clements would add an RBI on a groundout and
Drew Leinenbach would single home another. Leinenbach would then score on a wild pitch to give UNF a commanding lead.
The Owls would bring the score within one, as Emilio Gonzalez would hit a two-run home run.
Will Ross took over and maintained the lead, tossing two shutout innings. They would tie the game in the sixth on an RBI single.
Tripp McKinlay would deliver in the eighth, plating a run on a sac-fly to put the Ospreys ahead. The lead would not last long, as Carter Brady would send a baseball over the left field wall to put the Owls ahead.
The Ospreys would get momentum back in the ninth, loading the bases with nobody out. FAU uncorked a wild pitch, bringing Leinenbach home to tie the game. McKinlay then delivered again, sending a fastball back up the middle. The single drove in two, giving the Ospreys the lead.
