Jamie Davies & UNF Coaching Staff Tabbed ASUN Coach of the Year
JACKSONVILLE - Six players from North Florida men's soccer, as well as head coach Jamie Davies and his coaching staff, have been honored by the Atlantic Sun Conference with postseason award distinctions, as announced by the league office on Friday afternoon.
With the help of assistant coaches Alex Rangel and Marlon Montanella, Davies was awarded by his peers the ASUN Coach of the Year award in his first season at the helm for UNF. With a 6-7-3 overall record and a 4-2-1 record in ASUN play, he helped the Ospreys go from winless in conference games during the 2023 season to ASUN Regular Season champions.
In what was a unanimous selection, senior forward Joaquin Acuna cemented his UNF legacy with First Team All-ASUN recognition after notching seven goals and an assist this season. David Perez joins as a fellow Osprey attacker to the ASUN All-Conference First Team with his five scores and pair of assists in his first year with UNF.
It's the first time since the 2016 season that the Ospreys have two or more First Team All-ASUN selections. A total of five or more players receiving ASUN All-Conference distinctions also occurred for the first time since 2016 as well.
Three North Florida players made up the All-ASUN Second Team with midfielders Rentaro Miyakawa and Anton Khelil, as well as defender Nick Kishchenko, reeling in conference recognition with their premier play. Miyakawa led the conference in assists with six total on the season, while Kishchenko received ASUN Defensive Player of the Week earlier this season after leading back-to-back shutouts on the backline.
In his first season with UNF, Khelil was not only awarded Second Team All-ASUN, as he was also picked unanimously to the Freshman All-ASUN Team. Rafa Rios joined Khelil as a pair of Osprey players to be selected as some of the league's top freshmen.
Khelil and Rios make up the Ospreys' ASUN All-Freshman honorees to be the first since the fall of 2021, as well as the first UNF freshmen pair since 2019. The Ospreys join Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast with multiple All-Freshman selections.
