Men's Golf Starts Season In Top Five at Visit Knoxville Collegiate

Cody Carroll Cards 2-Under 68 in Collegiate Debut

LOUDON, Tenn. - North Florida men's golf had a great start to the 2023-24 season with three players shooting at par or better to place themselves among the top five teams after day one of the Visit Knoxville Collegiate hosted by Tennessee on Friday afternoon.

Cody Carroll was the highlight of the day for the Ospreys, as he scored 2-under 68 in his first collegiate round. He is currently tied for seventh overall after recording five total birdies, including four over the first five holes of the back nine.

ROUND REFLECTIONS

  • Carroll played 16 of his first 18 collegiate holes at par or better with a strong back nine at 2-under to close out the first round.
  • Robbie Higgins also shot in the 60s at 1-under 69, while also being tied for first in par-three average (2-under), to place tied for 13th overall.
  • The senior, Higgins, and the freshman, Carroll, each have five birdies to lead the team and stand top six among the field.
  • Nick Gabrelcik had a rough first couple holes, but finished the final 15 holes with 12 pars and three birdies for even-par 70 overall.
  • Both Higgins and Gabrelcik rank second among all individuals in par-five average at 2-under.
  • Andrew Riley, the D-II national champion, was 3-under through 10 holes, but finished 3-over 73 to sit with a share of 44th.
  • He joins Riley with a 2-under par-four average that ranks top five in the tournament on the first day.
  • Davis Lee closed out the first round for UNF with a pair of birdies to finish 4-over 74.
  • The Ospreys are one of four teams at the tournament with three players among the top 19 individuals on the leaderboard.
  • UNF had the second-best par-five average (6-under) and the fifth-best par-four average (4-over) through the first round.
  • They also are second in birdies with 18 total, while also recording 54 pars on the day.
