Men's Golf Places in Top Five at Windon Memorial Classic

Robbie Higgins Records Top-10 Finish at Northwestern

NORTHFIELD, Ill. - North Florida men's golf pushed its way up the leaderboard yet again with a solid final round to place fifth overall in the Windon Memorial Classic hosted by Northwestern on Tuesday afternoon.

Robbie Higgins was the leader of the Osprey squad earning seventh overall at 9-under 204 after an even-par day. The senior was at par or better in all three rounds and placed in the top four for most birdies in the tournament with 15 total.

Another UNF player who finished in the top 15 was Nick Gabrelcik, who pulled out a 4-under 67 final round to share 14th overall at 6-under 207 combined. He bounced back from his rough start to score back-to-back rounds in the 60s, as him, Higgins and Andrew Riley were the only Ospreys card a pair of rounds in the 60s.

ROUND REFLECTIONS

  • Higgins had a solid start to his final round with six pars and a birdie on his way to three birdies on the day to notch even-par 71.
  • This is the 12th time in his career that he has placed in the top 10 of a collegiate tournament, as well as the 22nd time in the top 25.
  • Along with his top-four birdie mark, he also finished with a top-four mark in par-five average score (7-under) and a top-10 par-four average score (3-under).
  • Gabrelcik worked his way up the player's leaderboard with the best Osprey score of the final round at 4-under 67.
  • The fellow senior sunk five birdies on the day, including four in the final six holes of the meet.
  • He found his footing in the tournament on par three holes, as he recorded the second-best average score (3-under) on those holes.
  • Lee had a strong finish to his week as well with a bogey-free back nine with four total birdies to place just outside the top 25 at 3-under 210 combined.
  • The fifth-year graduate was close behind Higgins with a top-10 mark in par-five average score (6-under).
  • Riley only had one hole on the final day that was worse than par with 14 pars and third birdies for his second 2-under 69 round.
  • The recent transfer had the fourth-most pars among the field with 40 total, followed by Lee with 39 total.
  • Carroll completed the tournament with three birdies as well to cap off a top-five finish for the group.
  • The Ospreys finished the tournament with the second-best par-five average score (27-under), the third-most total pars (182) and a top-five par-three average score (even-par).
