DIAMOND PREVIEW: North Alabama

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida softball continues its road travel with a conference battle against North Alabama from Apr. 15-16 in Florence, Ala.

The Ospreys look to pick up their first road win of the season over the weekend against a team that they are 5-1 against in program history. It will also be the last road games outside of Florida, as the remaining 12 regular season games are within the Sunshine State.

All matchups will be broadcasted on ESPN+ this weekend. Updates for each game will be made through live stats, as well as on Twitter at OspreySB.


WHAT TO KNOW

  • Only third conference series against North Alabama in program history and first time playing them on the road since 2019.
  • Looking for first win in ASUN play since sweeping doubleheader slate against Stetson on Mar. 25.
  • UNF has top-three marks in the ASUN for the most doubles (47) and the most stolen bases per game (1.34).
  • Chloe Culp and Ashley Connor remain the conference leads for doubles (13) and saves (5) respectively.
  • Culp looks to extend her on-base streak over the weekend with her current mark of seven-straight games.
  • Kayla Harper also has 20 stolen bases, which ranks second in the ASUN and top 40 in the nation.
  • Shannon Glover leads the team with home runs this season with seven of the team's 17 total.
  • She also is tied for third in the conference and trails the leader by only three.
  • Glover and Harper have combined for 22 hits against ASUN opponents, as they both hold averages over .320.
  • At least four pitchers have seen time in the circle over the past three games, including all five pitchers playing at least a full inning in the series finale against Liberty.


OPPONENT NOTES

  • North Alabama has a stellar 24-9 record overall on the year with a 6-6 conference mark and a 10-4 record at home. UNA started 1-5 in the ASUN against Jacksonville State and Central Arkansas. Since the skid, they are currently riding a five-game winning streak that includes a road sweep of three straight shutouts against Kennesaw State. The Lions have six hitters average over .300, led by Felicity Frame with a .398 average and 47 total hits. Sidney Bevis is right behind with a .390 average and 26 RBIs. Elena Escobar leads the team with the best ERA in the circle at 1.89, but Maci Birdyshaw has the most strikeouts with 63 total.
    • UNF leads the overall series against the Lions, 5-1, with the last meeting being a 6-2 victory at Jacksonville, Fla., in 2021.
