JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida softball two-way star
Allison Benning was named the Atlantic Sun Conference's representative as a nominee for NCAA Woman of the Year, as announced by the league office on Thursday, July 31.
This is the fourth consecutive year that a student-athlete from UNF has been named a nominee from the ASUN for this distinguished honor. She follows in the footsteps of volleyball's Rocio Moro, women's tennis' Kit Gulihur, and volleyball's Gabby O'Connell.
A native of Lake Elmo, Minn., she swept the ASUN superlative awards after being named ASUN Player, Pitcher and Scholar-Athlete of the Year, along with ASUN Tournament MVP honors. She was also named to multiple national All-American teams, CSC Third Team Academic All-American and was D1Softball's Mid-Major Player of the Year.
She led the Ospreys in delivering the program its first regular season and conference tournament titles, as she broke multiple schools records on her way to an ASUN Championship. UNF was also one of 32 teams in the national to make a regional final in the NCAA Tournament after back-to-back upset victories against Virginia in the Columbia (S.C.) Regional.
The NCAA selection committee will determine three honorees from each NCAA division for a total of nine finalists before the overall winner is announced at a later date.

On the NCAA Woman of the Year Honor
Established in 1991, the award recognizes female student-athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in their community, in athletics and in academics throughout their college careers.
The NCAA Woman of the Year Selection Committee will identify 10 student-athletes from each division, determining the Top 30 honorees. Of the top 30, the Woman of the Year Selection Committee will announce nine finalists, three from each NCAA division. The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics will review the finalists and name the 2025 NCAA Woman of the Year during a luncheon at the NCAA Convention.
