DIAMOND PREVIEW: Bethune-Cookman

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida softball plays its first home midweek doubleheader against Bethune-Cookman on Wednesday, Mar. 8, starting at 3 p.m., at UNF Softball Complex.
After splitting both days over the Spring Break Challenge weekend, the Ospreys look to get back on track with a rematch against the Wildcats. They faced off against each other in the UNF-JU Invitational this past month and shut them out, 10-0, in five innings.
Both matchups are hosted at the UNF Softball Complex and will be broadcasted on SWOOPLife Live. Updates for each game will be made through live stats, as well as on Twitter at OspreySB.


WHAT TO KNOW

  • UNF has split six of the seven days with two or more games played.
  • Looking for their first sweep of a doubleheader day since beating Memphis and Cleveland State on Feb. 18.
  • In previous matchup this season, Chloe Culp went off going 2-for-3 with six RBIs and two runs scored after hitting back-to-back home runs in the first three innings.
  • Skyler Stockie and Jolie Gustave both saw the circle in the shutout win that earned Stockie her first win of the year.
  • UNF has scored at least eight runs in three of their last four matchups played against B-CU.
  • They also have held the Wildcats to less than three runs in their past 11 games against them.
  • Have not lost the Bethune-Cookman at home since the 2011 season, as the Ospreys are 11-1 at home in the series.
  • Shannon Glover has the hottest bat on the team with multiple hits in six of the past eight games, including a current four-game multi-hit streak.
  • She posted solo home runs in back-to-back games against Troy as well to cap off a 9-for-14 weekend at the Spring Break Challenge.
  • Ashley Connor set a season-high in strikeouts with seven against Charleston Southern, while also recording a complete-game with no earned runs allowed against CSU and a save against Troy.
  • Izzy Kelly helped her record with two wins over this past weekend to give herself a 7-1 mark after nine appearances.
  • Logan Jackson has her sights set on extending her on-base streak to 18 games to start her season.


OPPONENT NOTES

  • Bethune Cookman has a 2-17 record overall to start the 2023 season with both wins coming in neutral site games. Since they played in the UNF-JU Invitational, the Wildcats went to the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic and The Spring Games. They capped off their latest tournament weekend with a win against Southern Indiana. The game this week against UNF will also be their last pair of games before heading into conference play in the SWAC on Friday, Mar. 10. Desirae Martinez and Haley Parks are the only hitters for B-CU that average over .180, as they have combined for 29 hits and seven RBIs for the Wildcats. Halyne Gonzalez and Victoria Guzman are the starting pitchers for Bethune-Cookman that have struck out a combined 72 hitters in 96.1 total innings.
    • UNF leads the overall series against the Wildcats, 19-5, with the last meeting being a 10-0 victory at Jacksonville, Fla., in 2023.

The Ospreys host their final tournament of the season with the UNF Invitational sending Army, Northern Kentucky and Troy to UNF Softball Complex from Mar. 10-12.
