Ospreys Defeat FGCU, 6-1
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - UNF women's tennis (11-6, 3-1 ASUN) earned its third-straight conference victory in a 6-1 win against rival-No. 70 Florida Gulf Coast (10-6, 1-2 ASUN) Sunday morning. It was UNF's largest margin of victory against FGCU since 2013.
The Ospreys started off strong as Jasmin Makela and Annabelle Davis claimed a 6-1 victory on the third court in doubles play. Just minutes later, Kit Gulihur and Ana Paula Melilo clinched the doubles point for UNF in a 6-4 win. The final court was left unfinished.
The momentum did not stop for the Ospreys as Melilo earned the first singles point in a 7-5, 6-0 win. With a 2-0 lead, Kendall Nash earned a point in the fifth position due to a retirement by FGCU. Isabel Oliveira clinched the win for UNF with a 6-3, 6-4 victory in the third position. The Ospreys continued their force against a tough FGCU team as Gulihur won in the first position after a ten-point tiebreaker. Makela won in three sets in the sixth slot, while Davis came up short in a ten-point tiebreaker. Despite the hot temperatures, the Ospreys earned their third-consecutive conference victory, 6-1.Â
North Florida looks to continue its win streak at Jacksonville State Friday, March 31 at 11 a.m. before facing North Alabama the following day.Â
